BASKETBALL
Rising out of a miserable pre-season showing (one win in nine games),
the Pacific cage squad inproved through the season to the extent that
it could win its last five games and annex second place in a wide open
Northwest conference race.
The phenomenal rise in strength of Harv Roloff's men is evident in
the comparative scores for those wearly early season forays against
those with the same opponents in late season play. For instance,
the Roloff men lost to College of Idaho, 70 to 58, on an early trip
but
met these same Coyotes a couple of months later at home and won twice
-- 90 to 78 and 94 to 83, the latter game setting a record for scoring
in the conference.
Consistently fine contributions made to the Badger effort came from
Norm Hubert, transfer forward, whose 35 points against C of I set conference
record, Danny French, only a freshman, but one of the league's finest
defensive players. and junior Dale Stewart, the team's roughneck and
a very reliable performer. All three made all-conference mention, Hubert
on the first five.
