Athroturbation Geology Flags: deYoung Museum Copper Facade Flag

 

Excerpt from NOTES in the above image discussing the term anthroturbation:

The inclusion of the ‘anthroturbational’1 flag images, represents the concept that the human-built environment using earth materials is a geologic stratum (Holocene era) in its own right and should be represented in this system. Architectural Graphic Standards, by Charles Ramsey, 1956, was used (along with other books and materials from the architectural field) for developing this aspect of the flag imagery.

A special flag was made in this context as shown as the top flag in the right hand image referring to the copper facade of the new deYoung Museum that Protogaea Civica: Geology Flags: Franciscan Formation/San Francisco, CA II, was commissioned for the celebration of its opening in the Fall of 2005.
